New Energy-Efficient Windows Just Became More Affordable!

Investing in energy-efficient windows and doors is always a good decision when conducting renovations in your home. Innovative technologies like Low-E triple-pane glass not only make for a quiet, insulted home, but the retention of heat means you’ll be saving big on those costly utility bills.

However, the most common deterrent to not investing in high-efficiency windows is the initial cost of the products. But, with a new rebate program launched by the City of Edmonton, the cost of installing energy-efficient windows and doors has become more accessible than ever.

Starting in 2021, the city of Edmonton is offering home energy retrofit rebates to all homeowners. Anticipating around 400 beneficiaries, the City of Edmonton has launched the rebate program designed to encourage more energy-efficient homes and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

If you’re looking to upgrade insulation, windows, furnaces or water heaters, you may be eligible for the rebate program. First, through the Home Energy Retrofit Accelerator (HERA), homeowners must complete the federal home EnerGuide evaluation before applying.

Home energy efficiency upgrades must be completed, and applications submitted, after the program launch date and within 18-months of program enrollment (except for the renovating to net-zero rebate). According to the city's energy transition project manager, the average rebate will be around $1,500 per home.

GreenFox Energy Efficient Products

Where does GreenFox come in? With our huge selection of windows and doors, we can not only ensure your home is outfitted with the top brands in energy-efficient options, but upgrading to our energy-efficient products means you might qualify for the rebate program.

If you’re considering window or door replacements in order to apply for the rebate, researching the needs of your home is extremely important. Your windows, doors and skylights may be the cause for up to 35% of energy loss in your home. By carefully researching the specifications of GreenFox’s energy-efficient windows and doors, you will be able to dramatically reduce the loss of heat and energy in your home while helping to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in our city.

Here is a list of some of our energy-efficient products that can help you towards the home energy retrofit rebate:

Triple-pane windows

Not only do our carefully-crafted windows provide a beautiful addition and excellent airflow throughout your home, but our wide selection of windows options, from casement to bay and more, have a variety of options to help you retain the energy in your home and save you money on utilities.

Many of our windows have the optional  1 3/8″ Triple Pane Glass which improves energy efficiency and reduces noise. Additionally, an optional Double Neoprene bulb seal provides an airtight window seal for even more energy efficiency.

Argon gas-filled windows

At GreenFox Windows, we appreciate that Alberta can be a cold place for much of the year. That is why we offer many innovative window technologies to help insulate your home and retain heat.

In addition to triple-pane options for GreenFox windows, we also offer optional Low E glass with two 1/2″ air spaces between the panes for argon gas fill. This enhanced glass option offers improved thermal performance and UV protection.

Argon is the gas most often used between panes in a window due to it being denser than regular air thus providing more thermal efficiency. Low emissivity, or Low-E glass, has a transparent coating that reflects infrared energy. Therefore, when the heat in your home tries to escape to the colder outside during the winter, the low-e coating reflects the heat back to the inside, reducing heat loss through the glass.

Insulated doors

Windows aren’t the only place your home can lose precious thermal energy. Improperly installed, insulated, or thin doors can let in cold air from Alberta’s chilly winters and let your warm air out. If applying for the Edmonton rebate program is your goal, there are energy-efficient door technologies that can help.

Many of the door brands we carry offer optional glass types and other energy-saving options such as our Trimlite Decorative Doorlites which are made with Super Spacer® Cushion Edge™; a flexible, U-shaped, silicone foam tape product used to wrap around and cushion the center decorative panel. Featuring a vapour barrier backing, these doors provide superior silicone foam insulation and low thermal conductivity.
